Cancer Action Victoria is the result of two advocacy groups, Breast Cancer Action Group Victoria and Cancer Voices Victoria, coming together in 2012 to cover issues that are common across all cancer types.
We proudly trace our origins back to 1994 when the Breast Cancer Action Group established volunteer, survivor-led cancer consumer advocacy in Australia.
Cancer Voices Victoria began in 2000 to advocate for those affected by all types of cancer.
The women who established the Breast Cancer Action Group wanted to ‘do’ things and that was why they called their organisation an “Action” group. Just as it was to these early pioneers of cancer consumer advocacy, the word “Action” is central to our name and purpose.
