Some examples of how we are involved in:

Service planning, performance and development

We provided a representative for the Consumer Strategic Advisory Group and the Consumer Design User Group for the development of the new Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Parkville.

We have a representative on the Steering Committee of the Cancer 2015 Cohort Study which aims to test and implement a new model of cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Consumer information, education and health literacy

We conducted the Empowering Rural Consumers Project. This was a project which took consumers with special needs who lived in rural/remote areas of Victoria and trained them as a cancer consumer advocates for their local services.

We have a representative on the Steering Committee of the Optimal Care Pathways Project which is producing, amongst other things, information for newly diagnosed cancer patients.

We have a representative on Cancer Australia’s Working Party Group on the Management of Menopausal Symptoms of Women with Breast Cancer.

We partnered to conduct a Consumer Information Forum at the Annual Meeting of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia.

Setting, planning and designing research priorities

We provide representatives who are on the advisory boards of research organisations or who help in assessing grant applications for research projects.

Policy development and priority setting

We make formal submissions like the one we made to the Senate Inquiry on “The availability of new, innovative and specialist cancer drugs in Australia.

Surveys, focus groups and feedback

Our members work with organisations like Cancer Council Victoria, the McCabe Centre for Law and Cancer and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to provide information about their cancer experiences.
